2007 SEX TOURIST SKETCHBOOK

These sketches were the result of an extended journey through the underbelly
of S.E. Asia in 2007, during which I explored the girlie bars, brothels and
boarding houses that cater to tens of thousands of middle-aged European sex
tourists, male and female – sex as commodity, mass marketed and consumer-
driven. For the first time in my career, I drew from life and used photographs
only as a kind of personal diary. The small, quickly executed  watercolours and
drawings (not to mention experiences) I brought back formed the basis of an
installation, Sex Tourist, at Art Melbourne '07, as part of Renault New Generation
Art.
